In an exciting and path-breaking
collaboration between longtime
friends, Untours and Equal Exchange
have created "Hal's Blend," a new
coffee to connect coffee drinkers with
small farmers around the world
while raising funds for the Untours
Foundation.
In 1975, Hal Taussig invented the
Untour, a way for curious travelers to
live like the locals, making meaningful
connections to other people and
cultures. His other passion for social
and economic justice leads him to give
most of his company’s profits to the
Untours Foundation. The non-profit
organization provides low-interest
loans to people and businesses around
the world to create work, housing
and Fair Trade where they’re needed
most. One of its first investments was
to Equal Exchange, a mission-driven,
worker-owned business representing
Fair Trade farming cooperatives
Worldwide.
Hal selected this balanced blend of
light and dark roasts with rich flavor
and sweet overtones. "As a frequent traveler to Europe, I like my coffee to have character," says Hal."This coffee has character in more ways than one. It has the full-bodied taste to go well with a Swiss kuchen, an Italian biscotto, or even a Czech palacinka. It also tastes better to me than a standard gourmet coffee because I know that the farmers who grew the beans are getting a fair price and holistic economic development through a committed partner, Equal Exchange."
